About annabel

Mixed media collage by Sarah Frassinelli

I am a New York-based writer and editor specializing in contemporary art and sustainability, which I cover for several publications, including The New York Times, the Financial Times, The Art Newspaper, Artforum, frieze, and the Brooklyn Rail, among others. For over ten years, I have been writing about contemporary art, design, architecture, and museum systems, and I am actively promoting sustainability and climate action. In 2025, I published my first book “Climate Action in the Art World: Towards a Greener Future,” (Lund Humphries and Sotheby’s Institute), which tackles the urgent issue of environmental sustainability in the industry.

I hold a BA in Art History and Italian from Emory University where I focused on a range of topics including architectural history, contemporary museum architecture, and Ancient Rome. In 2015, I earned an MA in Decorative Arts, Design History, and Material Culture from Bard College’s Bard Graduate Center with a qualifying thesis on architect-designed decorative arts through a case study on Richard Meier’s designs for the firm Swid Powell.

I have lived in New York City, Los Angeles, Rome, and London. Before becoming a full-time writer, I worked in several major museums and galleries worldwide, including Gemini G.E.L. in Los Angeles, The Victoria and Albert in London, The Morgan Library and Museum in New York, The Broad in Los Angeles, and the American Academy in Rome.
